CWG theme song tweaked, to be peppier like ‘Chake De’

first_imgAmid criticism that it failed to meet the expectations of the people, the theme song of the Commonwealth Games composed by A R Rahman will be tweaked a bit to make it more peppier like famous number ‘Chake De’.The original version of the song ‘India bula liya’ got a lukewarm response from the audience and was openly criticised by CWG Organising Committee’s executive board member V K Malhotra and other leaders for “falling short of expectations”.After a meeting of the GoM on Commonwealth Games, Sports Secretary Sindhu Shree Khullar said: “There will be more music, particularly instrumental, in the opening theme song of the Games.”Asked whether the tweaked version will be like Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’, the World Cup Football song, he said: “Waka Waka was more commercial. Ours will be like Chake De.”Chake De is a famous number in the sports-themed film ‘Chake De’ starring Shahrukh Khan.Lyricist Prasoon Joshi said some instrumental music have been added to make the theme song peppier and a video is under preparation. The video will feature sports personalities like Milkha Singh, Malleswari and other achievers in the field.Asked whether Rahman’s song had been changed, Joshi said the music composer himself has made it tighter and “you will hear it in the new video.””Rahman always changes his work till the last minute. He is a good craftsman,” he said.”The song has now been turned into a sports anthem. It has been pepped up with more beats and it will be a tighter version of the original,” he said.advertisementJoshi said that the “premature” criticism that came Rahman’s way after the song was launched last month is not the reason behind the change. He indicated that the video will be released in a week.last_img read more

Butt files elaborate reply in fixing case

first_imgBacked by one of Pakistan’s most respected lawyers, suspended Test captain Salman Butt has filed a comprehensive and hard-hitting reply to allegations of spot-fixing against him to the ICC tribunal.”Salman has a very strong case to prove his innocence and we have already sent a detailed reply to all the allegations made against him to the ICC,” said Aitzaz Ahsan, who is representing Butt in the case.Ahsan said that each and every allegation made against his client had been rejected in the detailed and comprehensive reply spread over 40-pages.”We are going into the hearing for these players well- prepared,” he said.Butt along with teammates Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were provisionally suspended by the ICC on September 2 on allegations of spot-fixing during the team’s tour of England earlier this year.Shahid Saeed, another lawyer on Butt’s legal team, also hit out at ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat for his statement in an interview to the BBC recently.”We are not giving details of our reply because of the confidentiality agreement, but Haroon Lorgat has violated the same agreement, although, charges are yet to be proven against the players,” he added.”The ICC itself is violating the agreement, as evident from the recent comments of Lorgat,” said the statement.Meanwhile, Butt insisted that a London ice- cream parlour could help clear him of spot-fixing allegations made as part of the corruption scandal surrounding the Pakistan team.Butt said thousands of pounds discovered in his London hotel room after a sting operation, came from daily tour allowances, bat sponsorship and the ice-cream parlour opening.advertisement”Everybody knows the PCB pays us daily allowances on tours and it was a long tour, so about 11,000 of this money was from my daily allowances,” he said.
