Two more national records in athletics recorded this year

first_imgIn Port Moresby on Saturday Debono Paraka broke his own National record in the discus by 46cm with a throw of 50.21 metres.Paraka broke Albert Momberger’s long standing national record.Meanwhile, over in Hobbs , New Mexico, Rellie Kaputin improved on the 12.65m national triple jump record that she set on her way to winning the Pacific Games Gold medal last year.Kaputin cleared 12.78m with the last jump of the competition.This brings to total 4 national records being set for this year with Toea Wisil setting a new 200m record in Canberra in February and Jacklyn Travertz a hammer throw record in March.Athletics PNG Secretary, Philip Rehder said the country’s athletes set ten national records last year which was a great achievement.“It is possible they will equal or better that this year”.“We have Toea Wisil threatening the 100m national record and Rellie the long jump record plus we have both Theo Piniau and Nelson Stone chasing Rio selection in the 200m.Added to this we have Adrine Monagi going very well in the heptathlon and Peniel Richard fast improving in the triple and high jumps,” said Rehder.last_img read more
